Human brain contains ~ 100 billion (1011) neurons.
- ~~ thousand of synapses per neuron.
Neuron
A neuron is a cell like any other cell in the body.
It has a cell body and a nucleus just like any other cell in our body.
The thing that's distinctive about a neuron is that it has:
- a big long process called an axon
- a bunch of dendrites, the little processes near the cell body.
At the tip of the axon, that's the classic neuron.
Many neurons have a myelin sheath, a layer of rolled up fat around the axon made up of other cells.
- That makes the axon conduct neural signals faster.
